When I was about five years old, I thought this ...was the coolest dude...I had ever seen:
"We have met the enemy, and he is us!?" Wow. That would just confuse TV watchers today. Sure enough, in 1998, the state had this PSA remade almost shot-for-shot, with updated music, a new guy portraying Tennessee Trash, and without the environmentalist variation on the Commodore Perry quote which nobody gets now but which apparently was commonplace in the late '70s.
Which leads me to another bit of generational gappage. The state did a follow up depicting a couple of senior citizens doing their civic duty and confronting Mr. Trash:
When I was a kid, threatening to tell his mother got Tennessee to clean up his act. Nowadays, if Elrod and Elvira tried this, ol' TT would blow them away with the snub-nosed .38 he keeps beneath all the Hardee's bags under his seat.
And I sat through a lot of this type of thing on bitter January and February mornings, waiting to find out if I would have to go to school:

You, sir, do have, by far, the funniest videos on any blog anywhere. Did I just do a comma splice? Anyway, I didn't think you could beat the video where Jay-Z or Ursher (or whoever it was) interrupted His Highness's address to the joint session of Congress but then you came up with da Gatas video.
ReplyDeleteThese three are fun in a different way. I didn't remember that anyone other than D.T. McCall & Sons ever advertised on the Ralph Emery show. I used to be able to name every county in Middle Tennessee and South-Central Kentucky alphabetically from watching on snowy mornings...

ReplyDeleteI tried and tried to find something with a D.T. McCall bit, but I couldn't. And the reason I find such funny videos is because I stay up all night finding them. That's my quality guarantee.
One time, I guess you were about six, we were visiting in Memphis. We were looking at a fountain somewhere downtown. You threw a piece of paper into the water. I said, "Why, Brian, that makes you Tennessee Trash." You began to cry. I got you to pull it out, and that made up for everything.

That fountain was - still is - in Court Square.
I couldn't find any confirmation that Fluffo is out of business.
